Instagram, the New Facebook?

March has been a month of changes for Instagram. First, improvements to videos as mentioned in my previous blog post and now a not-so-welcomed feed change. The looming change in Instagram's feed will display photos and videos from accounts you are following based on an algorithm. Posts will be displayed based on popularity and other social signals versus its current chronological order. Sound familiar?

Instagram may be taking cues from its big brother and owner, Facebook which made the same algorithm move back in 2009.

After a frenzy of complaints from Instagrammers, Instagram tweeted the below. The cryptic tweet may mean the change isn't imminent but I have a feeling it'll be on the horizon soon enough.

Instagram's Latest Changes

Sharing videos on Instagram will never be the same. Instagram announced that they will begin rolling out 60 second videos today* (up from their previous 15 second video limit). Whether you plan on capturing your life, informing customers of your product or service, the extra 45 seconds may serve you well!  What do you plan on doing with your extra time?

It doesn't stop there, you will also have the ability to create videos out of multiple clips from your camera roll on iOS!

Watch the below montage provided by Instagram.

Oxford's Word of the Year May Surprise You...

The Oxford Dictionaries 2015 Word of the Year is...the 'Face with Tears of Joy’ emoji (shown right)!

Yes, yes...you read that right! An emoji has been selected as Oxford's Word of the Year. If this new "word" has you scratching your head, you probably aren't alone.

The next logical question is, why?! According to the official Oxford Dictionaries blog, it was chosen because it's a "‘word’ that best reflected the ethos, mood, and preoccupations of 2015." It was also the most used emoji globally in 2015!
